Thurgoland Village Hall, Roper Lane
Building on the success of their 'Good Old Days' event which raised over £2,750 over the three nights, the Thurgoland Welfare Committee and Thurgoland Thespians have organised a 'smooth jazz' evening to help achieve their fund raising target of £12,000 needed to carry out vital building repairs to the Village hall.
John Anderson, the Producer of the show and Treasurer with the Welfare Committee, said: "We are very fortunate to have been able to secure the services of the Andy Cahill Jazz Quartet as the main act. Andy is a Saxophonist/Flautist with over 39 years’ experience, 30 of those professionally. He has worked with top artists such as George Benson and Carl Perkins and his extensive experience includes working both here in the UK and overseas. Andy has also performed at a number of notable charity events, including the Chalgrovae Festival in 2012 (Help the Heroes), An Evening for Ben in 2013 (Ben Needham) and later in 2014, he was part of the line up that played at a fundraising ball for St Luke’s Hospice at Baldwin's Omega which is reported to have raised over £23,000."
The Andy Cahill Jazz Quartet will be joined by other guest singers and friends of will be supported by the 'Buskin Buddies' another local, charitable group that John Anderson plays bass in, that has already raised a considerable amount of money for their chosen charity, Help for Heroes.
"Traditional jazz originated in the late 19th century and gave rise to distinctive styles such as New Orleans Jazz in 1910, Ragtime, Bebop Jazz in the 40's, Free Jazz in the 50's right through to the Jazz-rock fusion of the of the 60's, 70's and 80's," explains John. "The Smooth Jazz that we've chosen is a much more commercial form of Jazz fusion that, by its nature, has achieved significant popularity and for this reason will be very familiar to most of the listening audience having appeared in some musicals or been played on the radio and television quite extensively," he added.
Described as a 'smooth, classy and upmarket evening for both Jazz and live music enthusiasts', the village hall is to be laid out in cabaret style with candlelit tables and servings of cheeses and canapés. Light drinks and a selection of ales and wines will also be available and there will be an 'open door' arrangement with the local public house just a 'stones-throw' away to satisfy all tastes. Visitors are also invited to bring their own picnic hampers or snacks if preferred, but are asked not to bring 'takeaways' or hot meals. As well as the music, there will be other fun activities to take part in, including a 'themed quiz' with a moderate prize for the winning team.
The one-off event is to be held on Sunday 12th April at the Thurgoland Village Hall, Roper Lane, with doors opening at 6:30 pm for a 7:00pm start.
Tickets cost just £5 per person and these can be pre-booked through John Anderson on 01226 763257 or 07572 448540 and collected at the door. There will also be a limited number of seats available on the night that can be purchased at the door but larger parties are strongly advised to book in advance so as to avoid disappointment.
For further information please contact John Anderson on 01226 763257 or Nick Hibberd, on 07912 124543.
Money raised will go to the repair of the Thurgoland Village Hall.
