Urgent food supplies for families in crisis.
One in five families in the UK are living below the poverty line and are struggling to make ends meet.
In our own community life is no different – and an increasing number of individuals are finding it tough to provide basic necessities for themselves and their families.
A crisis such as redundancy, illness, problems with debt, changes or delays in benefit, or even sanctions imposed by the benefit system etc, can cause unforeseen hardship and distress – and often people do not know where to turn. In times like these, our Food Bank in Stocksbridge can help ‘bridge the gap’ and restore hope to individuals and families by putting food on the table and alleviating hunger.
The Hub Food Bank relies on the kindness of local people, whose donations make our work possible. We are staffed by a wonderful team of volunteers who adhere to a strict
confidentiality policy, understand, and have a desire to help and support local people.
We are grateful for the financial gifts from these charitable trusts that have enabled the setting up of this project:-
• The Harry Bottom Charitable Trust
• The J.G. Charitable Trust
• The Freshgate Trust Foundation
We are also very grateful to the many members of our community who sacrificially give
donations to support the ongoing work of the project. Thank you.
Are you, or is someone you know, experiencing a food crisis?
If so, first visit one of the following agencies or organisations who will help you to apply, providing you with a voucher:-
• The Advice Centres, either
Hillsborough (Proctor Place)
The Citizen’s Advice Centre (Manchester Road, Stocksbridge)
or Chapeltown (Station Rd)
• The local Housing Office
• Your GP
• Church Leaders or Schools
• Health Visitors or Midwives
• Community Support Worker
• Shelter or Housing Solutions
Then bring your voucher along to The Hub Food Bank on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10 am and 12 noon. Just come into the building, where the coffee house is, then turn right down the corridor to Room One.
We wlll offer you a warm welcome and refreshments whilst we sort out your food order, into ordinary supermarket bags, to cover the next three days.
Remember ….Our desire is simply to help people in our community through a temporary crisis, something which could happen to any of us!
