Stocksbridge Walkers are Welcome are part of 'Walkers are Welcome,' a nationwide initiative launched in 2007 to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers’. The network has expanded rapidly and there are now over 100 locations across the UK that have joined this innovative community-led scheme.
We have produced, with assistance from EPIP (East Peak Innovation Partnership) funding, 25 sets of instructions for guided walks in the area. These each include map, photographs and historical commentary. They are available, in .pdf format, from our website, a site which is currently receiving just over 1000 visitors/month. In addition we also have a flyer available.
In early July next year, Le Tour will skirt Stocksbridge on the route to Sheffield. In celebration, we will write, and distribute, instructions for a walk which runs approx. parallel to the route of Le Tour, from Langsett to High Bradfield. The walk will be available from our website from July 2013. We will also produce a professionally designed flyer which contains these instructions. This could act as local publicity for the route of Le Tour. We have obtained funding to make this happen, but, as ever, would appreciate more so the print run can be larger!
