Don Valley Railway Annual General Meeting Meeting

The Don Valley Railway Project’s aim during 2014 of funding and commissioning a detailed study showing how passenger trains to Stocksbridge will be introduced is the main issue for discussion at its forthcoming Annual General Meeting.

In addition, news that a petition to Sheffield City Council, endorsed by Stocksbridge Town Council, demonstrates the scale of support for the idea of bringing passenger services back to the line.

€5M bid to open railway and rejuvenate Upper Don Valley

The Don Valley Railway Project have made a bid to the Mayors Challenge Fund ran by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The charity, established by the former mayor of New York, could, if the bid is successful, fund in full an innovative Ultra Light Rapid Transit train service on the line.

Woodhead rail tunnels to be sealed

Transport Minister Stephen Hammond has made the decision not to buy the Woodhead tunnels, between South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, from owners National Grid. The two Victorian rail tunnels are to be sealed.
